Ad hoc wireless multicast with mobility prediction

چکیده
An ad hoc wireless network is an infrastructureless network composed of mobile hosts. The primary concerns in ad hoc networks are bandwidth limitations and unpredictable topology changes. Thus, efficient utilization of routing packets and immediate recovery of route breaks are critical in routing and multicasting protocols. A multicast scheme, On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP), has been recently proposed for mobile ad hoc networks. ODMRP is a reactive (ondemand) protocol that delivers packets to destinations on a mesh topology using scoped flooding of data. A number of enhancements can be applied to improve the performance of ODMRP. In this paper, we propose a mobility prediction scheme to help select stable routes and to perform rerouting in anticipation of topology changes. We also introduce techniques to improve transmission reliability and eliminate route acquisition latency. The impact of our improvements is evaluated via simulation.

Exploiting the unicast functionality of the on-demand multicast routing protocol
An ad hoc wireless network is composed of mobile hosts without any wired infrastructure support. In mobile ad hoc networks, unicast and multicast routing protocols are faced with the challenge of producing multihop routes because of limited radio propagation range. In addition, routing protocols must manage mobility and be bandwidth and power efficient. The On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol ...
متن کاملMulticast Routing Issues in Ad Hoc Networks
The advent of ubiquitous computing and the proliferation of portable computing devices have raised the importance of mobile and wireless networking. At the same time, the popularity of group-oriented computing has grown tremendously. However, little has been accomplished to-date in bringing together the technologies for group-oriented communication and mobile networking. In particular, most mod...
متن کاملMobility Prediction in Wireless Networks
Wireless networks allow a more flexible communication model than traditional networks since the user is not limited to a fixed physical location. Unlike cellular wireless networks, ad hoc wireless networks do not have any fixed communication infrastructure. In ad hoc networks, routes are mostly multihop and network hosts communicate via packet radios. Each host moves in an arbitrary manner and ...

A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is a characteristized by multi-hop wireless links, in the absence of any cellular infrastructure, as well as frequent host mobility. Existing on-demand multicasting protocols are categorized into tree-based and mesh-based strategies. In this paper, we propose a new on-demand multicast routing protocol, named spiral-fat-tree-based on-demand multicast protocol (SOM...

Studies of throughput capacity of wireless ad hoc networks attracts many attention since the year 2000. In these works, the fundamental capacity limits of wireless networks is studied. These results are of great importance because they are not only critical for theoretical analysis, but also provide guidelines in designing wireless ad hoc networks. Recently, the researches on multicast is propo...
